A-B Tech spring 2022 Nursing Program application period opens Sept. 13

Press release from A-B Tech

A-B Tech Community College will begin accepting applications for its spring 2022 Nursing Programs on Monday, Sept. 13. Potential students must apply for one of 50 available spots by the October 20 deadline, but are encouraged to apply early.

A-B Tech offers Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Advanced Placement Nursing (ADN AP).

Applicants to the Associate Degree Nursing program must have a current, unrestricted Nurse Aide I credential from the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry.

Applicants to the Associate Degree Nursing Advanced Placement program must have an unrestricted LPN license in North Carolina.

The Associate Degree Nursing is a five semester program that awards an Associate in Applied Science in Nursing degree. Completion qualifies graduates to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) that is required for practice as a registered nurse. The program is approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

The A-B Tech’s Nursing Education Program’s stated mission is to strive to meet the current and future needs of a diverse population by preparing dedicated, professional and caring nurses. Its graduates are equipped with knowledge, skills and strategies to integrate safety and quality into nursing care, to practice in a dynamic environment and to meet individual needs that impact health, quality of life and achievement of potential. Course content emphasizes the nurse as a member of an interdisciplinary medical team providing safe, individualized care while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement and informatics.

“Nursing is a wonderful profession and offers many career opportunities,” said Nursing Department chair Christy Andrews. “Starting the journey toward this exciting and demanding profession during the spring semester offers the student a smaller cohort size.”

There are many employment opportunities for registered nurses within the global health care system, including hospitals, physician offices, home healthcare services and nursing care facilities. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for registered nurses in May 2020 was $75,330. The bureau also projects 7%  job growth from 2019 to 2029. In Western North Carolina, there have been more than 6,000 job postings for registered nurses within a 60-mile radius of Asheville over the last year.
