AC-T:  12-story hotel gets unanimous approval

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported Thursday that a proposal for a 12-story downtown hotel cleared what would ordinarily be the last major hurdle in the city approval process Wednesday.

The Asheville Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-0 to approve plans for a Cambria Suites hotel at the northeast corner of the intersection of Battery Park and Page avenues, across the street from the Grove Arcade. However, a neighbor raised the possibility of an appeal.

Developer Tony Fraga, whose FIRC Group also owns Haywood Park Hotel and West Gate shopping center, has said he hopes work on the hotel will begin this summer.
