AC-T: 180 apartments going up near downtown Asheville

Here’s an excerpt from the Ashville Citizen-Times article:

A trio of developers will break ground next week on a major apartment complex above McCormick Field near downtown, one of just a handful of apartment developments in the past three decades near the city’s core.

Called The Retreat at Hunt Hill, the complex will comprise five apartment buildings and a clubhouse, with a few apartments above the clubhouse. In all, developers plan 180 apartments, with rents ranging from $600 a month for efficiency units that will be workforce housing to $1,300 to $1,400 for the largest two-bedroom.

If all goes smoothly, the developers hope to start moving people into the $20 million development in February. The development will emerge on the site of the former McCormick Heights apartments, a troubled complex with high crime that the city had torn down seven years ago.
