AC-T: Asheville activist Laurey Masterton died early this morning

From Asheville Citizen-Times

By Mackensy Lunsford and Jess McCuan:

Asheville activist and entrepreneur Laurey Masterton died in the early morning hours Tuesday.

Her sister Heather Masterton said Laurey spent Monday resting comfortably and surrounded by friends and family. “We had her in our hands and our arms,” Heather said. The timing of her sister’s rapid decline, she said, was a surprise to all, since Laurey had planned to attend a dinner just this week and had booked an ambitious bike ride for the fall.

But on Tuesday, the avid cyclist, beekeeper, author and chef lost her most recent battle with cancer, a disease she fought and spoke out against for much of her life.
