AC-T: Ice causes power outages in Buncombe County

Here’s an excerpt from the Asheville Citizen-Times article:

An ice storm that swept through Buncombe County and parts of Western North Carolina this morning is causing downed branches, power outages, treacherous driving conditions and school delays. …

Progress Energy reported that there were 2,538 customers without power in Buncombe County at 11:15 a.m. That’s down from more than 5,000 about 6:45. …

Power was reported out at Warren Wilson College this morning along with areas near the college east of Asheville.

A power outage also forced Montreat College to delay the start of its academic day. The college planned to begin at 10.

Many school systems in WNC are operating on delays. Avery, Buncombe, Haywood, Henderson, McDowell, Polk and Transylvania schools were on two-hour delays.
