Air Quality Forecast for Thursday, Nov. 17: unhealthy for sensitive groups (ORANGE), due to wildfires

Thursday, November 17, 2016, is code orange for most of Western North Carolina, including Asheville and Buncombe County. Air quality is unhealthy for sensitive groups in this area. Children, active adults, and those with heart or respiratory disease, including asthma, should limit outdoor activity.

Code yellow is forecast for the far southwestern NC counties of Cherokee, Clay, Graham, and Macon.  Unusually sensitive people in this area should consider limiting prolonged outdoor activities.

Code red is forecast for areas east of Western North Carolina, including McDowell, Rutherford, Polk and Cleveland counties, as well as the Hickory area where air quality will be unhealthy. Everyone should avoid prolonged outdoor activity in this area.

If smoke is present, consider the air quality code red.

A burn ban is currently in effect.
