Local musician and author David LaMotte shares the work of PEG Partners, a group based in Guatemala. During a special event on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at All Souls Cathedral, four young Guatemalan musicians will perform and a Gauatemalan-style dinner will be served.

Press release from event organizers:

Four young Guatemalan musicians will soon be visiting the Asheville area to perform, connect with other students, and speak about their experience in a music program co-founded by two non-profits based in Western North Carolina, PEG Partners and LEAF International.
What: An evening of Guatemalan food and music, and learning about Guatemala and the work of PEG Partners. Suggested Donation: $20.

Who: Musician and author David LaMotte, who founded PEG; PEG’s director, Sarah Bryan; Estefany Muñoz, music teacher, and three music students, Cinthia Morales, Cristina Morales, and Sara Ramirez, from El Tejar, Guatemala, who have been studying in a music program co-founded by LaMotte’s non-profit, PEG Partners.
When: 6:00 PM, Tuesday, Oct. 13.
Where: All Souls Cathedral, Parish Hall, 9 Swan St, Asheville, NC 28803
Why: Guatemala is geographically closer to Asheville than California is; but in other ways, it is worlds away. Through the work of these two organizations, PEG & LI, children in Guatemala have access to more opportunities and possibilities for their lives. These are hopeful stories, and people who make it to the event will be nourished and encouraged, while supporting this work through their attendance.

PEG Partners, which was founded in 2004, works with schools and libraries in Guatemala to support literacy, critical thought and artistic expression. In cooperation with LEAF International, PEG began the music program in El Tejar in 2007. It has been an extraordinary success, with several youth who have remained involved since the program began, and others who have won national music awards, and even gone on to study at the music conservatory in Guatemala City. The project and the partnership continue to grow and flourish. We look forward to sharing its story with you, and inviting you to spend time with these wonderful and talented young women.

The meal will feature simple and delicious Guatemalan-style food of beans, rice, tortillas, avocado, etc., and will be vegetarian, with gluten free options. Please RSVP at bitly.com/PEGEvent
