APD and BCSO request assistance to locate Kenneth Benjamin Barnett

UPDATE Oct. 18 from the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office:

The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office has taken Kenneth Benjamin Barnett into custody without incident as of 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.

Barnett was wanted for attempted murder in Greenville County, South Carolina.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the Detectives and Officers who worked throughout this week on search efforts and Asheville Police Department Senior Police Officer Rice and her K9 for their efforts this evening.

Last night at approximately 11:00 p.m. a pursuit originating in Haywood County entered into Buncombe County and ended in a vehicle crash in the area of the Asheville School off Smokey Park Highway. The suspect, Kenneth Benjamin Barnett, fled the scene of the crash on foot and has not been located. He is wanted in Greenville County, South Carolina, for attempted murder. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Barnett is described as a white male, 32 years of age, 5’6″, and weighs approximately 165 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He has a distinct spider web tattoo across the front of his neck.

If anyone from the public encounters Kenneth Barnett they should exercise extreme caution and contact 9-1-1 immediately. If anyone has any information on Barnett’s whereabouts they are encouraged to contact the Asheville Police Department at (828) 252-1110, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 250-6670, or Asheville-Buncombe Crime Stoppers at (828) 255-5050, if they wish to remain anonymous.
