APD investigating May 22 shooting

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

Asheville Police are investigating a gun discharge in downtown Asheville that occurred Sunday night in which one man was shot with non-life threatening injuries.

APD Patrol Officers were dispatched to reports of gun discharges at the 100 block of S. French Broad Ave. around 9:50 p.m. on May 22.  When officers arrived in the area, they found a vehicle with multiple bullet holes, but no gunshot victim.  As they investigated, they learned that a man had gone to Mission Hospital with a gunshot wound.

The victim informed officers that while he was parked at a location on S. French Broad Ave., men wearing masks approached the vehicle and demanded money.  Receiving none, they began discharging their weapons.  The victim sustained a gunshot wound and was able to drive a short distance away before being taken to the hospital.

APD Detectives are asking for the public’s help in finding out who these shooters are.  They are also concerned this shooting was done in retaliation for a dispute that occurred on Friday night.
