Updated: Robert Bernard Shelton, Jr. in police custody

Update from Asheville Police Department:

UPDATE (September 7, 2018): Robert Bernard Shelton, Jr. surrendered himself last evening. He is currently being held at the Buncombe County Detention Facility on a $350,000 bond.

The Asheville Police Department is requesting assistance to locate Robert Bernard Shelton, Jr. Please exercise caution if Shelton is located, he is considered armed and dangerous.

Shelton has open warrants for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury and two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill. These warrants are related to the shooting that occurred this morning at approximately 5:30 a.m. in Hillcrest Apartments. One victim sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Shelton is described as a black male, 32 years of age, 5’11” and approximately 230 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and multiple tattoos on his arms and hands.
