APD seeking assistance to identify suspect in bank robbery

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

On Wednesday, May 16, at approximately 8:22 a.m. the Asheville Police Department responded to the State Employees Credit Union at 111 Smokey Park Highway after receiving a report of a robbery. The suspect entered the bank and wrote a threatening note on the back of a deposit slip. He handed the note to the teller and fled with an unknown amount of money. No one was injured as a result of this incident.

The suspect is described as a black male with a shaved head, wearing a Carolina Blue UNC Tarheels t-shirt. He is thought to be operating a silver sedan.

If anyone knows the identity of the suspect or his whereabouts they are encouraged to contact the Asheville Police Department at (828) 252-1110 or Crime Stoppers at (828) 255-5050.
