APD seeking public assistance in early morning weekend shooting

Asheville Police Department Detectives are investigating an early-morning shooting over the weekend in a west Asheville neighborhood that left one man with non-life-threatening injuries.

APD Patrol Officers were called to the 200 block of Sulphur Springs Road around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning to investigate a reported gunshot wound. When Officers arrived on scene, they located a man at a residence with a gunshot wound and administered emergency medical care to the victim. He was transported to Mission Hospital by Buncombe County EMS, treated and released.

The victim told Officers that he was walking home after leaving a nearby night club just after 2 a.m. on Sept. 4 when two men shoved him from behind and shot him. He then said he quickly ran away and contacted 911 as the two suspects also fled on foot.

The victim described the two men to be black males wearing black fabric masks. He said that one man was wearing a red hoodie, and the other man was wearing a black hoodie.

Detectives are actively investigating this shooting and are asking anyone who may have information about the case to send an anonymous tip by texting TIP2APD to 847411. Since January 1, 2022, the Asheville Police Department has responded to 356 calls for service reporting shots fired or someone being shot. There have been 30 people confirmed shot in Asheville this year.
