APD seeks suspect in Haywood Road robbery

Press release from the Asheville Police Department:

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 18, the Asheville Police Department (APD) responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar store on Haywood Road in west Asheville. Employees reported that a suspect walked up to the counter, had a disagreement with the employee at the register, and then displayed a handgun while demanding items. The suspect then fled the store by traveling west across Haywood Road. No employees or customers were harmed during the incident.

The suspect is described as a black male. He was last seen wearing a green hat, a blue and white surgical mask, a dark blue zip-up hooded sweatshirt, and denim pants. If anyone has information concerning the identity of the man, they are encouraged to contact the APD at 828-252-1110.

The Asheville Police Department is committed to addressing violent crime in our community. Since Jan. 1, 2020, the Asheville Police Department has responded to 437 calls for service for gun discharges and gunshot wounds. In addition, 33 victims have been shot in the city of Asheville during the same time period.
