APD: Protect yourself from package theft

Press Release

Asheville City Government

Late last week the Asheville Police Department learned that some UPS and FedEx packages were being taken from north Asheville residences. A witness described an older model navy blue Jeep Liberty occupied by two white males in their 30’s being responsible for at least one of the thefts.

UPS and FedEx expects to have the busiest holiday delivery season ever. Considering all the online shopping, it’s not all that surprising. There are ways to protect yourself from holiday package theft. Ship the package to a location where you know someone will be available to receive it. Your work address, or to a trusted neighbor. You may want to consider the “signature required” option. You can also have the package held for pickup at UPS or FedEx.

Anyone with information about the vehicle described above is asked to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110 or Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050.
