Art + Wellness Weekend, July 25-28

Press release from adé PROJECT:

adé PROJECT: Art + Wellness Weekend is an intentionally curated space dedicated to art, wellness, community healing, and connection in Asheville, and taking place in THE BLOCK (near Eagle & Market Streets), a historic African-American business and residential district. All events, unless otherwise noted, will take place at the YMI Cultural Center (YMICC), 39 S. Market St, 28801.

Art has always been at the forefront of culture, whether through music, dance,  media, film or other ways that creativity and imagination comes to life. Through art, we can center heritage, culture + tradition to acknowledge what was lost—and celebrate what remains. A core belief we hold is that communities who traditionally, and continuously face marginalization, can respond with a rhythm…and that rhythm is up to what the people who are gathering choose to make it.  Our rhythm is art. Our rhythm is creativity. Our rhythm is imagination. Through varying points of connection including: forming the legacies and memories of THE BLOCK into the works of art with Art Ecologie and joined by the many hands of youth, elders, artists, and facilitators; to experiencing reclamation of narrative, and exploring a new story in the conversation on confederate monuments with the Silence Sam activist-producers and Working Films team; getting a deep stretch and connection to the energy of the motherland through an evening buti yoga session with Sherry Fields of Primal Studios; dancing the night away to the sounds of Afro-latinx culture with artist, painter, and drummer Darrell Rose, followed by the spins for wins of DJ DJ Hijx de la Chingada and DJ Mikemetic, along with special guests; to hosting a facilitated conversation for POCs on wellness and healing with Transformation Yoga, Daniway Yoga & Wellness or other instructors from Asheville Yoga Festival…there is truly something for everyone at this all donation-based, family-friendly weekend of happenings! May we share language, moments of connection, and catalyze change, healing, and community by seeing the beauty in all of our existence. Resilience births creativity, and creativity drives evolution. We are the change!

Collaborators over the weekend include many organizations, artists, youth groups, and dynamic community leaders! Special thank you to the staff, Board, and supporters of YMI Cultural Center for all the hard work and dedication that goes into keeping historic spaces and cultural artifacts alive in our community.
