Location: Asheville, NC

“We sense that ‘normal’ isn’t coming back, that we are being born into a new normal: a new kind of society, a new relationship to the earth, a new experience of being human.” ~ Charles Eisenstein

Interested in gaining the basic skills to lead a resilient life? Come dive deep into sustainable living skills for a week, including urban homesteading, gardening, food fermentation and preservation, wild edibles, herbal medicine making, and more. The Resilient Living Workshop, October 12-16, brings together some of Asheville’s top teachers who will lead dynamic workshops for students who want to leave with the basic knowledge and tools to live a resilient lifestyle.

Mornings will begin with a hands-on class led by Ashevillage Sanctuary’s garden & site manager, Kate Hanford, a local foods advocate and farmer with extensive experience in urban farming, mushroom cultivation, and compost systems. Participants will get down and dirty at a garden sanctuary as they take lessons on seed starting, harvesting, and cover cropping – right next to the heart of downtown Asheville.

In the afternoons, participants will learn from some of Western North Carolina’s greatest practitioners of resilient living skills: Natalie Bogwalker, Kate Hanford, Quinn Asteak, Luke Cannon, Asia Suler, and Marc Williams. Workshops will include lessons on food preservation, homesteading, herbal medicine making, fermentation, wild edibles, mushroom inoculation, and educational tours to permaculture sites.

Wednesday evening will include a presentation by guest speaker, Charles Eisenstein, a renowned speaker and author whose published books have included The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know is Possible, Sacred Economics and, Ascent of Humanity. His work delves into issues of human consciousness, economics, and the evolution of human culture.

Urban innovators, homesteaders, naturalists, foodies, healers, and students alike will all have something to learn at this workshop, which will provide the tools for a more sustainable, self-reliant life, even in an urban environment. Early registration has already begun, so participants can save big by registering before Sept. 31st. (And residents of Buncombe and neighboring counties can save even more with a 10% locals discount!)

Ashevillage Sanctuary LLC is a one acre, eco-urban sanctuary, living-learning laboratory, and homesteading hub located in downtown Asheville, NC. We believe in creating the world we want to live in by putting our beliefs into practice in our own backyard. We grow food and medicine, feed the pollinators, capture and use rainwater, build with mud, share resources, relish in the good life…and show others how to do the same.
