Asheville AIGA and The Foundry Hotel host creative community events Sept. 20-21

Press release from AIGA Asheville:

Asheville AIGA partners with The Foundry Hotel to bring an exciting two-part creative community event to Asheville. Both events will feature national board member and industry icon Hugh Weber. Hugh’s influence and impact has a broad reach from his work as community organizer, researcher, and network theorist, to his founding OTA, which is a for-purpose organization that has raised and invested over $2 million in the creative community across the upper Midwest US.

“We are thrilled to have Hugh with us for two days. His decorated background and impact on the national design community will be a treat for our local creatives,” says Gabe Swinney, programming co-chair for AIGA Asheville, “This event also showcases a certain type of invigorating, hands -on, and community based interactive format we plan to bring to Asheville as part of a diverse event series. We hope attendees will leave with practical tools and techniques they can apply in their work environments and creative communities.”

This two part event includes “Creative Hangout,” where creative professionals and enthusiasts alike will have a chance to mingle, network and share ideas. This will be a more casual environment, during which our creative community will have a chance to get to know one another more personally.

The following day will be the “Designing Community Workshop,” led by Hugh Weber. This will be a 4-hour immersion into best practices, applicable tools and techniques, and action steps to enhance confidence within the workplace and grow networks. The workshop benefits creatives, community leaders, entrepreneurs and executives, and anyone interested in building community and networks around their work.

The Foundry Hotel will be the host venue for both events. The unique layout, historic charm, and event spaces offer an ideal setting for this multifaceted two-day event. Registered attendees traveling in are invited to stay overnight at a discounted AIGA rate.

“The Foundry Hotel’s partnership with AIGA is important to our property’s efforts at helping spread the word about some of the most important aspects of our city, such as our creative community and the significant role they play,” says Nicole Phillips, director of sales at the Foundry. “The hotel architecture and design pays homage to the buildings long history while integrating modern design and decor. This mix of old and new showcases these revitalization efforts while maintaining the integrity of its historical roots.”

Tickets for both events are available at asheville.aiga.org. “Creative Hangout” will be Friday, Sept. 20, 6-9 p.m.; this event is free. “Designing Community Workshop” will follow on Sept. 21, 10 a.m-2 p.m.; the cost is $20 for members and $35 for nonmembers.
