The Asheville chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance (AHPA) has come nearly to the halfway to achieving the group’s $500 fundraising goal on popular crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. The club, bonded by a shared love of all things Harry Potter, holds philanthropic events and fundraisers on a regular basis, according to organizers. Members hope to improve their 2015 project lineup by procuring monetary contributions through Indiegogo.

“AHPA is one of many chapters of the Harry Potter Alliance, which uses fandom and awesomeness to fight for social and economic equality,” reads the local group’s campaign page. “Since its creation in September 2013, the AHPA has accomplished many of its goals, including hosting a food drive for a local food bank, raising money and awareness for This Star Won’t Go Out and collecting 1,111 books for the HPA’s annual book drive, Accio Books.”

The Potter fanatics have until Friday, Feb. 20, to reach their goal, but proceeds raised will benefit the group even if they fail to meet the $500 mark by the deadline.

“Our next campaign will again be Accio Books, where we will collect and distribute as many books as we can to those who need them but may not be able to afford it,” reads the group’s goal statement. “We also really want to host a Yule Ball sometime in the (hopefully near) future, and that costs a lot of Muggle money.”

Funder perks include Potter-themed handmade items like scarves to coincide with Hogwarts’ house colors, buttons based on magical creatures from the book series and other artwork items.
