The City of Asheville will hold an informational meeting on Monday, October 6 on proposed Municipal Service Districts (also known as Innovation Districts) in the Charlotte Street Corridor, the River Arts District, and the South Slope.
The meeting will take place from 5-6 p.m. in the Public Works building at 161 S Charlotte, Room A109. Although the meeting is geared toward community members who own real or personal property within the boundaries of the proposed districts, anyone from the public that would like to better understand the way the City hopes to use these tools to finance projects is invited to attend.
The City has identified these three areas as potential innovation districts for their significant redevelopment opportunities. In order to make sure those opportunities are realized, the City is exploring specialized investment opportunities for infrastructure upgrades including urban area revitalization projects, street and sidewalk improvements, drainage projects, and off-street parking facilities.
In order to establish a Municipal Service District, the City must hold a public hearing to consider this action in accordance with State statutes and notify all property owners in the districts that the public hearing is scheduled to occur. This public hearing will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber located on the 2nd floor of City Hall, 70 Court Plaza.
