Asheville Lyric Opera announces programs

PRESS RELEASE FROM ASHEVILLE LYRIC OPERA:

The Asheville Lyric Opera (ALO) is presenting a multitude of performances, lectures, and public concerts in their 2016/2017 season. From Singing in the Park to Cavalleria Rusticana, there is an event for everyone with ALO.

On September 30th, 3-5PM, at the UNC-A Reuter Center, Artistic Director David Craig Starkey and Jeff Messer host their monthly radio show: Art Talk. In this special episode, ALO invites the public to join in the conversation as it’s recorded live on station 880AM. In this special edition, Art Talk is welcoming Dr. Melodie Galloway, Music Department Chair at UNC-A. The panel will be taking questions from the audience, answering all that fall under their vast area of expertise. These industry professionals will discuss the arts in Asheville from diverse perspectives, and give a comprehensive look into the artistic ripple effect of Asheville. Visit this discussion, and gain insight into opera in Asheville. Free and open to the public.

Singing in the Park is October 9th, 3PM, at Pack Square Park, free and open to the public. All in the community are welcome to come spend the afternoon listening to performances from choirs, soloists, and singers in the surrounding region. Those who pack a picnic will be entered into the “Most Unexpected Picnic” contest, and have a chance to win some of ALO’s unique prizes. Outstanding artists and choruses will present music in its most classic form the comfort of Asheville’s favorite park. Bring a blanket and a friend, and listen to something new at Singing in the Park. Raffle begins at 3PM, food provided by Kilwin’s.

On October 13th from 5:30-7PM, ALO throws its Fall Fundraiser at Harry’s on the Hill. Attendees are ensured a relaxing night of hors devours, enlightening conversation, and riveting performances from the new American opera Approaching Al at 6:30PM. All proceeds raised from the event will directly benefit both the creation and preservation of traditional opera in Western North Carolina, allowing Asheville to remain one of the pioneers of classical music in the Southeast.
