Asheville Open Tennis Tournament wins state award

Press release from the City of Asheville:

The Asheville Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to announce that the 2019 Asheville Open Tennis Tournament is the recipient of the United States Tennis Association – North Carolina chapter Tournament of the Year Award in the Adult/Senior category.

A Tournament of the Year Award is given in recognition of “a USTA sanctioned adult tournament that has best demonstrated the high standards upheld by the USTA in organizing and conducting a sanctioned adult tournament.”

This honor acknowledges the valuable contributions made to the sport by Aston Park Tennis Center staff and the Asheville Tennis Association volunteers.

“In its 88th year, the Asheville Open is the oldest USTA sanctioned tournament in the state of North Carolina. We are thrilled to receive this honor for our commitment to offering a quality tournament, with divisions for all players and an atmosphere inviting to both participants and spectators,” said Tennis Center Manager Laura Loftis.

Parks staff will receive the award in January at the Tennis Weekend Awards Luncheon held in Pinehurst, N.C.
