Asheville Police charge wanted man with kidnapping and assault

Asheville, NC (June 2, 2023): Asheville Police Department Officers assisted Black Mountain Police Department in the apprehension of a bank robbery suspect Thursday afternoon

APD Officers responded to the area of I-26 around 2: 57 p.m. on June 1 to assist the Black Mountain Police Department with the apprehension of Kelvin Wayne Simmons (12/17/1976.) Before Simmons was taken into custody, he struck multiple vehicles and attempted to steal a vehicle from an elderly woman.

APD Detectives charged Simmons with the following:

  • First Degree Kidnapping
  • Assault on Female
