Asheville Police Department seeks information in ongoing homicide investigation

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

At approximately 7:20 p.m. on August 5, the Asheville Police Department responded to Buffalo Street in west Asheville after reports of an individual suffering from a gunshot wound. When officers arrived they located a male victim suffering from a life threatening gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Mission Hospital where they passed away as a result of their injuries. The victim has been identified as Kanize Jackson (20), of Asheville.

This incident remains under further investigation. We encourage any member of the public with information on this incident to contact the Asheville Police Department at 828-252-1110.

This is the 9th victim of a homicide in Asheville since January 1, 2020. During this same time period the Asheville Police Department has responded to 341 calls for service related to shots fired.
