Asheville Regional Airport celebrates first American Airlines flights on three routes

Press release from Asheville Regional Airport:

Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) is pleased to celebrate nonstop service on American Airlines to three new destinations this weekend: Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport (DFW), LaGuardia International Airport (LGA) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). An event titled “The Great American Tour” will be held at the airport at the inaugural DFW flight on Friday, May 3, 2019, with all three destinations highlighted and celebrated. Service to DFW and PHL starts on May 3, and LGA begins on May 4, 2019.

These new additions to AVL’s route map enhance Western North Carolina’s domestic and global connectivity. Air travelers now have nonstop, daily access to DFW, a west-bound international hub with easy connections to the west coast and Latin America. The daily nonstop to PHL is a convenient way to access the greater Philadelphia area, and many northeastern and European connections, including Canada, England, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. This summer, American will be the only airline with nonstop service to Bologna, Italy and Dubrovnik, Croatia, when seasonal service begins in June.

The weekend service to New York City via LaGuardia is also a welcome addition for travelers, capping the list of three new routes that have been added. American also offers five to seven daily nonstop flights to Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) from AVL.

“Air travelers in our area now have some excellent new options available, thanks to American Airlines and their commitment to our region,” said Lew Bleiweis, A.A.E., Executive Director of the Greater Asheville Regional Airport Authority. “There are many connections now available, greatly contributing to the ease of travel to and from Asheville Regional Airport. We thank American for their confidence in our market, and I look forward to the success of these routes.”

“We look forward to launching this new service, providing more options and a robust schedule,” said Tracy Montross, Regional Director of Government Affairs at American Airlines. “Whether it’s one stop to Europe, Asia, the West Coast, or a weekend in New York, we want to be the airline of choice for Western North Carolina.”

“The Great American Tour” event will feature a ceremonial celebration at AVL, marking the importance of this significant addition of new routes. American and AVL executives will share remarks as passengers enjoy cake, a ribbon cutting at the gate and a traditional water arch as the first flight departs to Dallas/Ft. Worth.
