Asheville residents invited to provide comment on pickleball courts

Press release from the city of Asheville:

The City of Asheville Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to provide their comments on a concept for designated pickleball courts at Recreation Park.  A drop-in public meeting will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at the Stephens-Lee Community Center, 30 George Washington Carver Ave., Asheville. Anyone interested in the proposed project can drop by during that time to see the concept and provide comments.

The concept includes multiple pickleball courts and a reconfiguration of the basketball court on the Recreation Park property.  The project is currently in a concept-only phase and does not have funding allocated for design or construction.

For more information about the meeting, contact the Asheville Parks and Recreation Department at 828-259-5800.

What is pickleball?

Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a Wiffle ball, over a net.
