Asheville Running Experience Half Marathon set for 2015

From press release

For those runners from the mountains and beyond who missed having a fall half-marathon in Asheville, the wait will be soon over. Glory Hound Events and Kick It Events have announced a half marathon will be part of the new Asheville Running Experience to take place on September 4-6, 2015.

The ARX Half Marathon will be held on Saturday morning, Sept. 5 and follow much of the same course as the old Asheville Citizen-Times Half Marathon, which ended in 2013. Later that evening, 5K runners will have their moment in the sun with the Asheville Brewing Super Hero 5K, which is moving from its traditional November date. Prior to the 5K, the Funktastik Fun Run will be run on a .5-mile course. All of the Saturday events will be based on Coxe Avenue in the South Slope district of downtown Asheville.

On Sunday morning, trail runners take the stage with Chasing Trails 8K at the KOLO Bike Park at the Crowne Plaza Resort. Also on Sunday, The Incredible Asheville Urban Odyssey (TIAUO) will take family and adult teams on a tour of Asheville as they solve clues and riddles and complete tasks for time and prizes.

Race partner and originator of the idea, Greg Duff of Glory Hound Events said, “We created this event to include runners and non-runners in a celebration of Asheville. The two road races provide runners of all abilities a way to participate, while the Chasing Trails 8K does the same for trail runners in the heart of the city. TIAUO is designed to allow families and groups of friends to compete in a fun, collaborative way that will give them some exercise and, hopefully, learn a few things about our city. Most importantly, this is an Asheville event, put on by experienced local companies, for residents of our area and beyond.”

Part of the entry fee from each event will be donated to Eblen Charities as part of their Arby’s/Eblen Joyful Home for the Holidays program to provide food to area children over the holiday vacation.  Event participants will be able to make additional donations through the registration process. Race organizers are providing two hundred free entries for the Funktastik Fun Run to introduce area youth to running and will provide additional fun run entries in trade for food items that will also be given to Eblen Charities.

Registration for all events opens on December 1, 2014 at www.AshevilleRunningExperience.com.
