Asheville Art Museum receives a grant to support student learning through art
The Asheville Art Museum has been awarded a grant of $11,190 by the Perry N. Rudnick Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Henderson County. The grant will be used to support the implementation of the Asheville Art Museum’s Literacy Through Art (LTA) program in 2014, providing 2nd – 5th grade students in classrooms throughout Henderson County Public Schools with ten sessions of arts-integrated, language arts instruction and a field trip to the Asheville Art Museum. The Museum hopes to implement the program in 26 classrooms, reaching approximately 650 children.
Asheville Art Museum Executive Director Pamela Myers says, “Exposing children to the arts helps them develop their imagination and thinking skills. Our Literacy Through Art program offers new ways to educate children in reading, writing and communication.”
Since its inception in 1994, the LTA program has reached 23,085 children in 993 classrooms across Western North Carolina (WNC).
The Community Foundation of Henderson County supports charitable programs in the greater Henderson County area. It was founded in 1982 and administers over 500 funds with assets of over $80 million.
