Asheville High School band invited to perform at Presidential Inaugural Festival

Press release

From Janet Everson

Under the tutelage of William Talley III AHS Band Director, the award winning Asheville High School Band has been invited to perform at the Presidential Inaugural Festival in January 2012. They are one of few bands from across the country to receive such a prestigious invitation. Last fall the Cougar Marching Band received numerous awards in only their 4th year of competitions. Last March the Wind Symphony received its 44th consecutive Superior rating at the NC Music Performance Adjudication.

Their challenge now is to raise the money to pay for the chartered busses, hotel rooms, food and other expenses for the 115 band members, 2 Directors, 1 principle, and 12 chaperones – a cost of $85,000.

With such an enormous amount and a very short time to raise it in, we need your help in getting our message out. Just being invited is a success in its self but the trip can’t happen if we don’t raise the funds.

We have been very fortunate to have part of the race sponsored and supported the by Asheville Law firm of Grimes Teich and Anderson.

Our biggest Fundraiser is the Band Aide 5K WALK/MARCH/RUN on November 10, 2012 at Carrier Park in Asheville and the cost is $25.00 per runner. The race begins at 10:00am with signup starting at 8:00 a.m. You can visit our website at www.ashevillehighbands.com for more information about the race and our message. You can also sign up for the race at Imathlete.com and putting the race name in the search box.
