Asheville student wins photo award

The Catawba Valley Community College Photographic Technology student Chris Wood recently received the first Carl Moser Memorial Scholarship from the Catawba Valley Camera Club.

Presented by Catawba Valley Camera Club president Rick Bell, the scholarship honors noted Catawba Valley photographer Carl Moser who passed away earlier this year. He was one of the club’s founding members. A retired brick mason, Moser picked up photography at age 62. His knack for capturing nature and scenes from a simpler time reflected his love for America’s heartland and its people. His work was exhibited at the Smithsonian and The Mint Museum in Charlotte, and in the pages of National Geographic.

Scholarship candidates must be an advanced student in CVCC’s Photographic Technology program and must submit an essay and portfolio review.

Wood is a resident of Asheville, N.C. He served as vice president of CVCC’s Chapter of the Student Photographic Society (SPS) and was on the high honors list fall of 2011 and spring of 2012.
