ASU professor studies chia for ‘superfood’ properties

From the Watauga Democrat:

Chia (yes, as in Chia Pet) could be the world’s next health craze, and Appalachian State University and the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis are leaders in researching the plant’s “superfood” properties.

Studies have shown that chia seed is rich in omega-3 and other nutrients, as well as a source of sustained energy. Additional research is needed to draw conclusions about chia’s ability to reduce the risk of disease.
