Bass virtuoso Tony Grey presents a workshop and performance at Asheville Music School, Oct. 4

PRESS RELEASE FROM ASHEVILLE MUSIC SCHOOL:

Asheville Music School presents an evening workshop and live music performance with bass virtuoso, Tony Grey on Tuesday, October 4th at 6pm.

Tony Grey is a multi-instrumentalist, master bassist, composer, producer, published author and award-winning music educator who has collaborated and performed with some all-time greats, such as John McLaughlin, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Dennis Chambers, Bill Evans, Zakir Hussain, Hiromi Uehara and many more.

Tony studied at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music and graduated in 2001, receiving the prestigious ‘Outstanding Performer’ award. Tony is known for his 6-string electric bass technique, blend of jazz/world-fusion compositions, groundbreaking music education curriculum and his unique teaching philosophy.

In this workshop, Tony will familiarize students with creative learning. For example; If you’re learning a scale, instead of just learning it, learn how to make melodies with it, how to create bass lines with it, how to compose with it, how to improvise with it, and most importantly learn how to hear and feel it all over your instrument so the only thing holding you back is the limitation of your own imagination.

The intention behind this approach is to provide students with a conceptual blueprint that can be applied to their playing, regardless of what level they are at or which instrument they play. Following the workshop, Tony will perform with his latest project, Tony Grey Galactic Duo. Prepare yourself to experience the flawless composition and high-energy brilliance of this ethereal, drum and bass, jazz-fusion masterpiece.

Tony encourages students to bring their instruments, without amps or anything extra. Multi-instrumentalists are welcome. Tickets are $15 and are available at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2606242
