BeLoved Asheville hosts Fiesta Thanksgiving and cultural events at new Liberation Station Nov. 20-22

Press release from BeLoved Asheville:

Each year, BeLoved Asheville, a local nonprofit hosts a Fiesta to share food, friendship, and gratitude with the deep and stated intent of de-colonizing Thanksgiving. This year, we will be celebrating in our new space at BeLoved’s Liberation Station (10 North Market St.) and at Polanco Restaurant!

We remember that we are indeed on stolen land.

We remember that we have a responsibility to honor and celebrate cultures that were slated for annihilation and to celebrate the strength of peoples in the face of these realities.

We create a table of welcome and gratitude for all who came before us and all the ways we can bless each other on the road to mutual liberation.

There will be home-made authentic Mexican food (a cooking class will take place on Wednesday teaching how to make tamales with Blanca Perez). A celebration honoring indigenous people and dancing featuring a Mariachi band will also take place!  Everyone in the community is welcome to the feast, remembrance and celebration.

All are welcome!

Tuesday, 5:30-7:30 p.m.: Youth from the community will learn about indigenous history and craft with BeLoved’s Proud to Be Brown Youth Initiative

Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.: Fiesta Thanksgiving preparations and cooking classes to learn to make tamales with Blanca Perez.

Wednesday, 12 p.m.: The unveiling of our new outdoor gallery featuring indigenous artist, Ponkho Bermejo
