Ben & Jerry’s founders to visit Asheville for shop grand opening, Feb. 9

Press release from Ben & Jerry’s Asheville:

Asheville, NC, February 4, 2019 – All Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops serve up fan favorite flavors like Phish Food and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. They all blend up thick shakes, serve sundaes, make the best ice cream cakes for special occasions, and do catering. However, the Asheville Scoop Shop on 19 Haywood Street is offering something that few others can: meeting the real Ben and the real Jerry!

For the Grand Opening on Saturday, February 9th, the ice cream company founders are coming to Asheville to meet the staff and the biggest ice cream fans Asheville has to offer. Ben and Jerry plan to visit the shop and scoop free ice cream from 12:00 noon to 1 pm. In keeping with the company’s mission to give back, the Asheville shop will help raise awareness and funds by donating tips to their charity partner: Girls On The Run, and will continue serving free scoops to raise money until 4:00 pm. After 4:00, they will still offer a 20% discount off purchases for the remainder of the day. Girls on the Run inspires girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind.

“We feel so fortunate to be part of this VERY socially progressive town full of amazing beer, great food, beautiful mountains, a funky art scene, a Friday night drum circle, awesome music, and more dogs than you can shake a scoop at!” said shop owner, Julie Williams. Williams believes that all ice cream lovers, non-dairy eaters, Fair Trade supporters, college students, families and all Asheville residents will enjoy what this locally owned and operated business brings to the community.

The shop, which opened in September of 2018, is unique in design with a long, exposed brick wall and a one-of-a-kind indoor/outdoor mural which highlights the famous Asheville drum circle. Williams’ commitment to fulfill Ben’s famous mantra that “Business has a responsibility to give back to the community,” will be embraced by the local community. The shop decided on its own to offer federal employees affected by the recent government shutdown free ice cream. “We were aware that a considerable number of federal employees were being heavily impacted by the government shutdown right here in Asheville,” said Williams. “We wanted to do something to recognize their hard work and their service to our country and community. We offered them free ice cream, which we hope was a small moment of joy for the belly and soul.”

The Asheville team invites you to join the Grand Opening on February 9th, so stop by from 12:00 – 1:00 pm and meet Ben and Jerry. “These two inspire us with their accomplishments and their values, and we can’t wait for them to meet our Asheville neighbors,” said Williams.
