Ben & Jerry’s hosts free scoop hour Aug. 25 to benefit Asheville Humane Society

Press release from Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream:

Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream is celebrating the soon-opening of its first scoop shop in downtown Asheville by teaming up with Girls on the Run of WNC for a special event at the Wedge at Foundation on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 3-4:00 p.m. For 60 minutes only this Saturday afternoon, Ben & Jerry’s will be dishing out a free scoop of its beloved ice cream to those who donated needed items to the Asheville Humane Society, including used towels, plastic bags, dry dog and cat food and paper rolls — a full list of needed items can be found here.

“Anyone who brings one or more of these items to the Wedge at Foundation will receive one scoop of ice cream at no charge,” said Julie Williams, owner and operating partner of Ben & Jerry’s in Asheville. “At Ben & Jerry’s, we love our pets as much as we love our ice cream, so we are excited to help provide much-needed donations to the Asheville Humane Society.”

To host this one-hour event, Ben & Jerry’s is partnering with Girls on the Run of WNC, a physical activity-based, positive youth development program for girls that combines running with lessons about important topics such as preventing bullying and processing emotions. As part of the 10-week Girls on the Run program, which is held at dozens of sites throughout WNC in the spring and fall, teams of girls in 3rd-8th grade think up and complete a community impact project together.

“At Girls on the Run, our hope is that girls will use the skills and confidence they build while completing the community impact project to inspire even more change in their communities and throughout the world,” said Rebecca Tucker, executive director of Girls on the Run of WNC. “We are thankful to join Ben & Jerry’s and the Wedge at Foundation for a joint community impact project to give back to an organization that does so much good for our furry friends in Asheville.”

Ben & Jerry’s will open its shop in Asheville at 19 Haywood St., located between Urban Outfitters and AdLib clothing store, the week before Labor Day.

“We are so excited to bring Ben & Jerry’s to the vibrant, thriving community of Asheville and look forward to meeting local ice cream lovers over a free scoop on Saturday,” said Williams. “At Ben & Jerry’s, we are committed to doing good and supporting organizations that help improve the communities in which we live and work—like Asheville Humane Society and Girls on the Run of WNC.”

Asheville community members must bring donations to the Wedge at Foundation (5 Foundy Street, Asheville, NC 28801) to receive one free scoop of ice cream per person.
