Black Mountain News: Nature Center deer dies, prompting investigation

From Black Mountain News:

The Western North Carolina Nature Center lost the third member of its animal family in six months Thursday night, following the suspicious death of a resident deer.

Nature Center director Chris Gentile said park officials are on high alert following the discovery of Baby, a 13-year-old female deer, who was found dead Friday morning in her exhibit with suspicious injuries.

“Based on what we know from the injuries we saw and the position that she was found in, there definitely appears to have been some sort of mischievous activity involved, and we think it came from within the park,” Gentile said.
