Blue Ridge Books announces upcoming author events

Blue Ridge Books in Waynesville, N.C. announces a calendar of events including woodworker William Everett who will present his book on Saturday, March 21; and novelist Wiley cash appearing as the featured speaker at a Friends of the Library meeting on May 7.

Saturday, March 21   3:00 pm   Sawdust and Soul with William Everett
Local author William Everett has joined with a fellow woodworker in South Africa to put together a book of conversations about woodworking and spirituality.    This book invites everyone into a conversation about trees and wood that has been taking place for centuries as people have crafted works of art as well as usefulness. You can get the book and join this conversation with Bill and local woodworkers Ed Davis, John Gernandt, and Gregory Paolini, at this event.

Saturday, March 28   Noon-1:00 pm   Making Miracles with Lin Stepp
We are always delighted to have Lin Stepp join us to read from one of her Smoky Mountain Novels.  Her newest novel is Making Miracles.  Set in Tennessee’s postcard-perfect Smoky Mountains, Lin Stepp’s Makin’ Miracles is an inspiring tale that reveals why love and forgiveness are most important just when they seem most impossible.

Saturday, April 4   3:00 pm   Messages to the Heart with Elise and Phil Okrend
Elise, a pastel painter and Phil, a writer and professional life coach came together to produce and release the inspiring coffee table book, Messages to the Heart, Reflections of Beauty and Truth in 2014. Now, the Okrend’s have incorporated the art and words from their book into live programs and workshops.  Blue Ridge Books of Waynesville, NC is delighted to host the Okrends for a one hour program on Saturday, April 4th from 3:00pm-4:00pm.

Saturday, April 11   3:00 pm   When All Light Tends to Go with David Joy
In David Joy’s “Appalachian noir” coming of age story,Where All Light Tends to Go., blood is thicker than water and Jacob McNeely is drowning in it.  This debut novel has already garnered in-house enthusiasm along with praise from authors Daniel Woodrell, Ron Rash, Tawni O’Dell and Ace Atkins.  David Joy has lived in North Carolina his whole life and currently lives in Webster, NC .  He is also the author of Growing Gills: A Fly Fisherman’s Journey, which was a finalist for the Reed Environmental Writing Award and the Ragan Old North State Award for Creative Nonfiction.

Thursday, May 7   7:00 pm   Friends of the Library Event at First United Methodist Church with Wiley Cash
Wiley Cash, author of A Land More Kind than Home and This Dark Road to Mercy, will be the featured speaker for the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting.  Blue Ridge Books will sell tickets for the event and will sell Cash’s books at the annual meeting.  We have the books in stock if you’d like to read them before you attend.

Saturday, May 23   3:00 pm   The Mending Time with Meta Commmerse
The Mending Time is an intergenerational, layered story of overcoming cycles and effects of violence and separation in the legacy of slavery.  For three generations, the novel follows two families on the South Side of Chicago, taking an intricate look at the effects of historic discrimination, struggle, migration and urban life on these African descended people.   Meta Commerse, Founding Program Director, is a native Chicagoan, raised in the black arts movement.  She is daughter of two artists, award-winning author of six books and one play, all focused on family violence prevention and healing.   She is mother of three children and grandmother of three grandsons. She is also an instructor at Haywood Community College.
