Blue Ridge Community College adds dog grooming courses

Blue Ridge Community College has added two job training courses in dog grooming through its Continuing Education program.

The first course, Dog Grooming 101, begins August 20 and runs through October 1. Class participants will learn the basics of dog anatomy, health and safety, recognizing normal and abnormal conditions and safe handling techniques as well as application techniques for basic grooming for pre-bath preparations, safe bathing, drying, and scissoring, nail trimming, dremeling, filing and the finishing techniques. The course will meet on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The registration fee is $325 and includes books and tools rental.

The second course, Dog Grooming 102, will begin October 15 and run through November 19. Class participants will learn advanced skills and learn about breed groups, breed patterns, styling techniques of particular breeds, grooming the senior pet, and grooming the neglected pet. This course builds on the skills learned in Dog Grooming 101. Dog Grooming 102 will meet on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The registration fee is $175.

Both courses will be held at The Refined Pup Pet Grooming at 3754 Brevard Rd in Horse Shoe.
