Blue Ridge Humane Society Thrift Store halts donations for holiday season

Press release from the Blue Ridge Humane Society:

Blue Ridge Humane Society would like to thank all the amazing donors, shoppers, and volunteers who have supported the Thrift Store this year, especially after the store reopening in late June with new practices and procedures in place due to COVID-19. Blue Ridge Humane Society leadership and store staff have been blown away by the showing of support and especially the donations that have poured in over the past few months.

In an effort to be the best stewards of managing and organizing the donated items, the Blue Ridge Humane Society Thrift Store will be temporarily halting the acceptance of donations until after the holidays. The store will remain open with extended hours 9:30am-4:30pm Tuesday through Saturday.  The last days of donation drop-off for the immediate time being will be Tuesday, October, 27, and Friday, October 30, between 10:30am-2:30pm.

Like many, there have been adjustments to the challenges of a community working and living in a pandemic and find creative solutions to ensure we continue to support our mission, while providing a safe and positive shopping and workspace for our donors, shoppers, volunteers and staff. The Thrift Store relies heavily on a limited pool of hardworking volunteers to operate the Thrift Store, which due to the incredible amount of donations, has led to a backlog of items to process for sale. By halting intake staff hope that this time will allow volunteers and staff to catch up on processing the generous amount of donations received.

If you are interested in volunteering, there is an ongoing need for volunteers at the Thrift Store! Positions range from one time to regularly occurring shifts, across a range of positions. No retail experience is required. To learn more about volunteering, visit https://www.blueridgehumane.org/get-involved/volunteer/ and fill out the Volunteer Application.

All proceeds from purchases at the Blue Ridge Humane Society Thrift Store go directly to helping animals at Blue Ridge Humane Society with housing, medical care, routine vet care and vaccinations, and more, as they are on their journey to a new, loving home.

Blue Ridge Humane Society thanks the community very much for continuing to remember us and for your ongoing support of the work of Blue Ridge Humane Society!
