Blue Ridge Music Center launches its summer concert series with Mipso, May 28

PRESS RELEASE FROM BLUE RIDGE MUSIC CENTER:

The Blue Ridge Music Center is launching its Summer Concert Series with performances by two talented young contemporary bluegrass groups, Mipso, out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and regional favorites, Shadowgrass. The concert begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 28 in the Music Center’s beautiful outdoor amphitheater at the base of Fisher Peak on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The four young renegade traditionalists that comprise Mipso are doing their part to carry forward the living musical traditions North Carolina and beyond. The band’s evolving musical style blends classic four-part harmonies and traditional Appalachian country and folk sounds with jazz and pop to create a new musical texture and terrain that enriches and expands upon the traditional vocabularies of old time and bluegrass music. With the band’s sophomore record Old Time Reverie debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart in October 2015, Mipso is fast becoming a household name in the bluegrass and Americana worlds.

Shadowgrass is a talented group of bluegrass musicians, ages 11 to 15, based out of Southwest Virginia and Western North Carolina. The band is comprised of Kitty Amaral (fiddle and vocals), Presley Barker (guitar and vocals), Luke Morris (mandolin and vocals), Kyser George (bass and vocals), and Clay Russell (banjo).

During the concert, The Galax Smokehouse will be on site serving its signature barbecue, down-home sides, drinks, and desserts.

Tickets are $15 and available at www.blueridgemusiccenter.org or by calling (828) 308-2773, ext. 245. Season passes (Full, 1/2, and Pick 3) are also available online or over the phone.
