Press release from the College:

Brevard College Theatre is pleased to present “Freud’s Last Session,” a play by Mark St. Germain and directed by Brevard College student Karen Bennett. Performances are Thursday, April 16, through Saturday, April 18, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 19, at 2:30 p.m., in the Porter Center for Performing Arts’ Morrison Playhouse at Brevard College. The production is Bennett’s senior thesis project.

This engaging one-act play is set during the London bombings of World War II and follows a fictional conversation between psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and Christian apologist C.S. Lewis. At times both humorous and thought-provoking, their lively argument navigates subjects of faith, reason, Christianity, and psychology while the imminent danger of war and the looming shadow of death hangs over them.

Cast members Josh Goldstein and Logan Taylor play C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud. The set design is by sophomore student Kaylee Smith, with lighting design by Assistant Professor Andrea Boccanfuso.

“As you engulf yourself in the battle of wits that is ‘Freud’s Last Session,’ I challenge you to view these two men as just that: men. Not ideas, not intellectual or spiritual giants, but human beings like you and me,” Bennett said.

Following the Friday and Sunday performances, audiences can participate in a talkback with The Rev. Robert D. Field, Rector of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Brevard, along with the cast and creative team.

Tickets are $5 and are available online at etix.com, at Southern Comfort Records in Brevard, or one hour before each show at the door.
