Brevard Music Center events include Sidney Outlaw, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Janiec Opera Company

Chamber music returns to the Porter Center on the campus of Brevard College for a pair of truly unique concerts. On Monday, July 21, at 7:30 p.m. acclaimed operatic baritone and Brevard native Sidney Outlaw returns to his hometown for a solo recital of works ranging from classical lieder to modern songs based on the writings of Martin Luther King, Jr. Don’t miss an evening of truly special music performed by one of Brevard’s hometown talents.

On Wednesday, July 23, at 7:30 p.m. Ken Lam leads the Music Center’s annual chamber orchestra performance – Brevard Camerata. The special evening of music includes Stravinsky’s “Dumbarton Oaks,” Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate, and a rare performance of Beethoven’s first symphony. A fan favorite, the annual event presents an opportunity to hear orchestral performances in a truly intimate concert setting.

OPERA PREMIERES NEW WORK – SISTER CARRIE
BMC’s Janiec Opera Company continues its 2014 season with a the premiere of Grammy-winning composer Robert Aldridge’s new work, “Sister Carrie.” The production is the 2014 entry in BMC’s Opera In A Box project, which allows Brevard students to workshop and perform premieres of new operas. Based on the novel by Theodore Dreiser, “Sister Carrie” tells the story of a young country girl who moves to the big city to pursue her own American Dream. Three performances will be presented July 24, 25, and 26 at 2 p.m. in the intimate blackbox theater at the Porter Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Brevard College.

BMC PRESENTS MARY CHAPIN CARPENTER
The new BMC Presents series concludes on Tuesday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. with a special concert by singer-songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter. Carpenter will join Keith Lockhart and the Brevard Festival Orchestra to perform her most-loved hits with live orchestral accompaniment. The unique concert offers something for fans of country and classical music alike. Enjoy the concert from the comfort of indoor seating, or take a seat on the lawn for an evening under the stars.

The box office is located in the foyer of Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium on the Brevard Music Center campus. Patrons who purchase tickets online may print their tickets at home, may have them mailed, or may have them held at the box office. The online ticketing system also allows patrons to choose their own seats from the available locations.

Parking is free to all events at the Brevard Music Center.
