Buncombe County calls for volunteers to assist with Special Olympics Spring Games May 5

Press release:

Volunteers Needed for Special Olympics Buncombe County Spring Games to be held on Thursday, May 5, 2015

Buncombe County will hold its Special Olympic Spring Games on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at TC Roberson High School. Opening ceremonies will kick off at 9:00 a.m. at the track and games will follow. Athletes from throughout Buncombe County will demonstrate their athletic prowess in events such as standing long jump, running long jump, track and field events, softball throw and relay events.

Buncombe County Special Olympics’ Spring Games event attracts some 500 athletes and 1,000 volunteers each year. The event offers athletes with intellectual disabilities an opportunity demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Volunteers are needed to help provide a positive experience for Buncombe County’s Special Olympic athletes and to demonstrate the level of community support for the program. Anyone is welcome to attend to cheer on the Special Olympic athletes. Volunteers can sign-up for the event online at buncombecounty.org/specialolympics.
