BCHHS and Buncombe County Emergency Services has led the way in vaccination efforts, administering more than 95,600 total doses of COVID-19 vaccine in our community. At this time, 52% of the total Buncombe County population has received at least one dose of vaccine and almost 50% of the total population is fully vaccinated. The One Buncombe approach is critical to pushing past this pandemic, and every person who receives the vaccine brings our community one step closer to ending this pandemic. Stacie Saunders, Buncombe County Public Health Director, would like to recognize the efforts of community partners who have been instrumental in the COVID-19 response: “AB Tech has been a huge asset to this response and to our community during the global pandemic. For the past seven months, our response has been based out of their Asheville campus and we have vaccinated many community members at this location. We are extremely grateful for their hospitality and professionalism at the vaccine site and for their continued assistance with the pandemic. Special thanks to Dr. Gossett, Clint Gorman, and Kevin Mills for their support from day one. We are also very thankful to the many volunteers and staff who showed up every day dedicated and ready to help protect our community.”

At this time, there are many vaccine providers in Buncombe County. Please visit www.myspot.nc.gov to find a provider near you. If you are unable to leave your home due to medical reasons and need the vaccine to be administered in your home, please call us at (828) 419-0095.

“If you are not vaccinated, it is important to continue to be cautious and practice precautions. While new cases are down, the virus is circulating and those who are unvaccinated are at greatest risk,” Saunders reminds the community. “Overwhelmingly, most new cases are in the unvaccinated and across the nation we are seeing that the majority of those hospitalized with COVID-19 are also unvaccinated. Protect yourself and those you love.” For more information on vaccination events or testing in Buncombe County, please visit buncombeready.org.
