Buncombe County Schools names two new directors and a new assistant director

Press release from Buncombe County Schools:

Superintendent Dr. Tony Baldwin today announces two directors and one assistant director have been selected for central office positions. Kimberly Fisher will be the new Human Resources Director. Brian Propst will serve as the Assitant Director of Human Resources. Taylor Baldwin joins BCS as the Career and Technical Education (CTE) director.

Kimberly Fisher’s previous experience includes working as the Benefits and Employee Relations Manager at UNC-Asheville, the Chief Human Resource Officer at Cornerstone Healthcare in High Point, and the HR Manager at Interim HealthCare in Asheville. A graduate of North Buncombe High School, Ms. Fisher is looking forward to making “a difference in the lives of others by serving as a role model and demonstrating integrity, compassion, and caring.”

Brian Propst is the new Assistant Director of Human Resources. He’s worked in the HR department since 2006 as the HR information systems manager. He previously served as a technology education teacher at A.C Reynolds Middle from 2001-2006. “I have enjoyed being part of the HR team for the past 12 years,” said Mr. Propst. “I look forward to continuing to collaborate with others on new projects and assisting our BCS family with onboarding and relevant training and development opportunities.”

Taylor Baldwin’s previous experience includes working as the CTE director for Asheville City Schools, Career Development Coordinator for Buncombe County Schools, and as a teacher at A.C. Reynolds High School. A graduate of A.C. Reynolds High School, Mr. Baldwin is looking forward to positively influencing “the purpose, direction, and motivation of students” and stakeholders in this school system.

“We are excited to bring Ms. Fisher and Mr. Baldwin on-board and move Mr. Propst into this new role,” said Associate Superintendent Ms. Susanne Swanger. “Fisher, Propst, and Baldwin join a strong, dedicated, and high-quality staff. They will provide vital functions for our employees and students. They clearly embody the culture and priorities of our school system and bring years of valuable experience to these positions.”

These assignments were approved by Board members at Thursday’s Regular Board of Education Meeting. Kimberly Fisher’s first day is June 3; Brian Propst will transition to his position on July 1; Taylor Baldwin’s first day is July 1.

The BCS Human Resources Department serves many important functions for faculty and staff, such as benefits management, employee recruitment, training and retention, and retirement assistance. The CTE department offers middle and high school students engaging and relevant career preparation pathways such as architecture, arts, finance, health science, and information technology.

Why didn’t the reporter tell us that Taylor Baldwin is Supt. Tony Baldwin’s son? Will there be a follow-up story? Will the Mountain Xpress make a public records request for emails sent by the superintendent/BCS regarding Taylor Baldwin’s appointment? Will the Mountain Xpress request state laws/BCS policy regarding nepotism?
