Buncombe middle schoolers eligible for free summer day camp at YMCA

Press release from the YMCA of WNC:

The YMCA of WNC is offering summer day camp at no charge to rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders in Buncombe County.

YMCA Camp Quest is funded through a 21st Century federal grant, a United Way grant, and local contributions. Based at Reynolds Middle School, the day camp includes breakfast and lunch from the YMCA Nutrition department.

Campers will go on weekly field trips and can choose from a variety of activities, including filmmaking, comic book creation, STEAM, outdoor education, sports and wellness, art, cultural studies, and more.

“Camp Quest is completely free of charge to families, provides a safe space for middle school-age youth during the summer, and is a great opportunity to continue learning outside the classroom with hands-on activities,” said Angel Chandler, K-12 operations director of the Horizons 21st Century program at the Y.

Camp Quest will operate Tuesday-Thursday, June 26-Aug. 9. Limited transportation options are available.

Enrollment forms are available at Reynolds Middle, Enka Middle, Enka Intermediate, Erwin Middle, Valley Springs Middle, North Buncombe Middle, Cane Creek Middle, and Owen Middle.
