Asheville, NC – Council on Aging of Buncombe County is pleased to announce ‘Kickoff to Older American’s Month,’ a fundraiser hosted by Jerry and Carrie Keller at Rhubarb, 1 SW Pack Square, Asheville, on April 23, 2015 from 5:00-6:30 pm.

May is Older American’s Month and is an opportunity to celebrate aging and call attention to the talents and contributions of senior citizens in our community. Older American’s Month originated from the Older Americans Act, established in 1963. This act attempts to identify and address the barriers facing many persons as they aged, through nutrition, in home care, caregiver support, transportation, legal services and elder abuse prevention, among other supports. Today these services are evident in all 50 states, and one in five older adults receives a service originating in the Older Americans Act.

Council on Aging of Buncombe County serves over 5,000 seniors each year throughout Buncombe County and surrounding areas.  All proceeds from the event will benefit Council on Aging of Buncombe County programs and services.

Tickets for ‘Kickoff to Older American’s Month’ are on sale at www.coabc.org, can be charged by phone at (828) 277-8288, or purchased at the door.a
