Business group to honor local journalists

Here’s the message from Alan Rosenthal, founder of the Vibrant Asheville Business group, via its email newsletter:

Hello everybody!

As many of you know, journalists, photographers and other staff were recently laid off from Asheville Citizen-Times. There is plenty of discussion to be had about the state of the newspaper industry and big, bad corporate news organizations. But the bottom line is that talented and professional members of our local, Asheville community have found themselves in the horrible predicament of being out of work.

As an investigator, researcher and writer for over 30 years, I have always respected good journalism. The Asheville area’s journalists and those in related fields are an integral part of the local business community.

There are so many good things about Asheville but we rarely hear about the area’s terrific journalists who provide the community with professionally vetted and ethically prepared reporting on everything from scandals to human interest to the love of art and the art of the written word.

In our midst, we have some great journalists, photojournalists and others in related fields. An honor is due those in this profession who keep information flowing and who add so much to our local community. Vibrant Asheville Business™ would like to honor these dear friends and dedicated professionals!

Vibrant Asheville Business™ has quickly become the premier networking group in the Asheville area. Vibrant is a diverse, multi-cultural, inclusive and growing local, Asheville-based, Western North Carolina supportive organization.

Our next Vibrant Asheville Business™ Networking Party is on Tuesday, October 8th at 5:30pm in the South Bar at Pack’s Tavern. I hope you can join us.

Best selling author Susan Reinhardt, Ashvegas founder and editor Jason Sandford, editor and copy desk chief Rob Mikulak, talented photojournalist John Fletcher, and social media director Jaime McKee are our honorees for this wonderful and supportive event. We are hoping that editor Thomas Fraser and advertising coordinator Linda White will be able to join us also.

Many of the colleagues of our honorees, the area’s journalists and media professionals in print, radio and television, are going to visit with us. Local, small business relationships are very important to journalists, photographers and others in the field so come on out and meet the local business community!

We would love to have ALL of our local journalists in print, television and radio and those who work in these fields to join us…families also. In other words, we want to throw all of you a big Thank You party. (Note on current events…If you have a colleague whose newspaper email affiliation may have recently changed, please extend this invitation to them,)

Please RSVP on Eventbrite or Meetup at the links below. There is no entrance fee for this party. Food and beverages are on you.

I look forward to seeing all of you at this terrific event!
