“Everything went dark:” Dramatic RIver Rescue

Concerned that she may be late for her 11 p.m. shift, Ronda Evans Williams took one quick glance at her cellphone to check the time.

That was all it took for her 1999 Acura TL sedan to skid off Lyman Street, fly through branches and brush and land in the French Broad River. Then the car flipped over.

“After flipping, everything went dark, black, blank. That was scary,” said Williams, 46. “After that, the water, I could hearing it coming in. It was filling up quickly.” …
