Canyon Kitchen kicks off 2017 season with new dinner events and staff, April 27

PRESS RELEASE FROM CANYON KITCHEN:

CASHIERS, N.C.  (April 18, 2017) – Canyon Kitchen, located in the rustically elegant Jennings Barn at the foot of Cow Rock Mountain in Lonesome Valley, will be opening for the season on Thursday, April 27th.  Executive Chef Adam Hayes and his team of seasoned culinary professionals have been preparing for the restaurant’s opening for months and are looking forward to the new offerings and enhancements.

“We have a great team this year and feel that, as a group, we are really starting to hit our stride,” says Chef Hayes.  “It’s like baseball…we’re building a program!”

That program includes a new restaurant manager, Tim Smith, who is also a certified sommelier. Erik Hedlund will be alongside Chef Hayes in the kitchen as Executive Sous Chef, as well as Ken Naron as Sous Chef and Jorden Cruley as Pastry Chef. In addition to some new faces, guests can also expect to see several enhancements to the restaurant itself with a reconfigured kitchen, new equipment, pastry shop and bar.

Chef Hayes’ passion for farming remains evident as they continue to hone in on what grows best in their garden to meet the needs of the kitchen. Guests can anticipate beans, more corn and lots of varietals of tomatoes. Additional lounge seating will also be available in the garden, with options for lighter fare and incredible outdoor views. In addition to the creative farm-to-table menus, the bar program will be expanded this year with Joey Tastet as their head bartender creating imaginative and inventive, new craft cocktails.

To kick off the season, Canyon Kitchen will host special culinary events and wine dinners every Wednesday throughout the month of May.  The first scheduled is a dinner featuring Guest Chef Meherwan Irani from Chai Pani on May 3rd. The next event, on May 10th, is a fundraiser for the Hospice House. On May 17th, guests can enjoy a Coupe Cocktail Dinner with cocktail book author, Brian Hoffman, of Hoffman Media. Lastly, they will close out the month with a wine dinner featuring Chateau Montelena.

Nestled in the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains of Cashiers, Canyon Kitchen is located in one of the most beautiful settings in the country, framed by verdant forests and meadows, encircled by thousand-foot granite cliffs.  It has been recognized with an OpenTable Diners’ Choice Award for Top 100 Scenic View Restaurants in America.  The relaxed setting of Canyon Kitchen is complemented by the detailed craftsmanship of the barn’s traditional post and beam architecture; large indoor and outdoor stacked, stone fireplaces; massive exposed ceiling beams; unique rope basket light fixtures; and multiple barn doors that line the walls and can be opened to enjoy the cool mountain weather.
