Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy to lead dog hike Aug. 10

From a press release:

CMLC to Lead “Dog Days of Summer Hike” in DuPont August 10th

Bring your dog along for a hike with Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy this Saturday, August 10th to explore trails in CMLC-conserved DuPont State Recreational Forest (DRSF). This is CMLC’s first-ever hike hosting four legged friends, so take this opportunity to get your pup outside on CMLC’s protected lands.

CMLC’s “Dog Days of Summer” hike will travel a 3.5 mile loop beginning and ending at Guion Farm. It features 350 feet of elevation gain and is rated as moderate in difficulty. The hike is free for CMLC members. Dogs must be on a leash for the duration of the hike.

CMLC’s protection of DSRF began with its involvement in a local grassroots effort that led to its conservation and facilitation to public-ownership in the 1990s. Since then, CMLC has buffered the Forest with thousands of acres of private conservation easements as well as facilitated the addition of several hundred acres to DuPont SRF itself.

CMLC conserves land and water resources to benefit the quality of life of residents and visitors in Henderson, Transylvania, and surrounding counties. Since 1994, the land trust has protected more than 24,000 acres of natural lands in our mountains.
